Ninety miles west of Juneau, on Admiralty Island, is the village of Angoon.  Located on the northernmost section of the "Inside Passage," the region is a series of islands protecting the inside waters from severe ocean conditions. Angoon is a crossing of currents with average tides between 10 to 15 feet. These currents blend rivers of plankton into a vortex, creating an ideal environment for herring. The herring bring in the salmon. Local waters are a feeding zone for salmon. Ancient forests stretch as far as we can see.

Admiralty Island is protected from the Pacific Ocean by Baranof and Chichigof Islands to the west.  Angoon has calmer waters and fewer rain days than any other location in the region.  Fishing on calm waters and minimal ‘running’ time is an Angoon bonus.   Located about 90 miles from Juneau, Sitka, and Petersburg we are far enough to avoid day traffic from busy sport & commercial fleets.  Angoon fishing is still a wilderness experience.

Protected for centuries by the Tlingit or "Tides People," Angoon has remained a special place of natural abundance.  This isolated village of about 450 residents are all descendants of Tlingit families and clans that have lived here for over a thousand years. Admiralty Island, also known in Tlingit as Kootz–Noo-Hoo or "Fortress of the Bears," is now protected as a US National Monument.
